Golden Rice & Why Greenpeace Co-Founder Wants It

Richard Ha writes:

Dr. Patrick Moore, who co-founded Greenpeace, is conducting a public demonstration on June 17th at the Greenpeace France office in Paris, demanding they stop opposing Golden Rice and confirming that they don’t support the destruction of research trials. You can read more about his campaign to Allow Golden Rice Now here.

This less-than-two-minute video very succintly lays out what Golden Rice is (it’s had two genes inserted that adds beta-carotene to the grain, an essential nutrient that provides Vitamin A). Vitamin A is the leading cause of child mortality in the world. A child dies every minute, his video says, because of Vitamin A deficiency.

He’s asking that Greenpeace make an exception to its zero tolerance for GMO stance on humanitarian grounds.
